Emma Branderhorst, who previously made three short films, is working on her feature film debut This Will Not End Well, in which Sarah (27) tries to understand why her best friend Vicky suddenly ended their friendship. Branderhorst is writing the script herself because it allows her to stay closer to the emotional core of the story, taking her own experience with a friendship breakup as a starting point. The story is told through observation rather than explanation, an approach she also used in My Mother and I (2023). She was selected for both Berlinale Talents and the 51st session of La Résidence du Festival de Cannes, the Cannes Film Festival's screenplay development program.
