More than 4,700 film personalities, including directors Pawel Pawlikowski, Lukas Dhont, and Rodrigo Sorogoyen, have signed an open letter calling on the EU to revise its plans for Creative Europe, because the proposed AgoraEU reform would merge the MEDIA programme with other cultural and news media streams. The MEDIA programme, which has provided crucial support to independent production, distribution, and training over the past 35 years, funded recent Oscar winners such as "Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Favourite," among others. Under the new structure, guaranteed film funding may decrease, while the total budget for 2028–2034 rises to €3.2 billion, with news media also claiming a share of those funds.
