Greece will host the 39th European Film Awards on January 16, 2027, at the Greek National Opera in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, marking the first time the ceremony takes place in Southeast Europe. Throughout 2026 and early 2027, an extensive program of workshops, screenings, and events will unfold across the country, coordinated by EKKOMED in collaboration with the European Film Academy. International festivals such as the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and the Drama International Short Film Festival will participate, while organizations like the Greek Film Archive and the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation will further enrich the program with activities centered on European cinema.
