Singaporean production companies 13 Little Pictures and Emoumie Pictures have attracted four international co-producers for the mythological body horror *Strange Root*, directed by Lam Li Shuen and Mark Chua. Palari Films, In Good Company, Sluizer Film Productions, and Archipelago: Binisaya are joining the project, which was selected for the inaugural genre section of HAF. The film, shot on 16mm and 35mm, is set in 11th-century Singapore and follows a demigod born from a yam that is ritually consumed by villagers. Financing is expected to be secured in October 2026, after which shoots will begin in Indonesia in May 2027.
