The German government will require streaming platforms and television broadcasters to invest 8% of their revenues in Germany in local content. The government will also nearly double its funding for the local film industry to €250 million annually. Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer emphasized that this will be a real boost for jobs, value creation, and creative excellence. The measures will likely be discussed at the opening of the Berlin Film Festival next week. Michelle Müntefering of the Production Alliance welcomed the measures, especially the promise to retain rights for producers.
