Nearly 2,000 Greek film professionals have demanded urgent reforms and immediate payment of outstanding funds from EKKOMED, the national institution responsible for the cash rebate scheme, in an open letter entitled “Visibility: Zero.” No payments have been made since March 2024 and no new projects have been approved since November. €180 million in funds are still outstanding for 173 productions. The letter criticizes the bureaucratic complexity following restructuring and the centralization of decision-making. EKKOMED defends the reforms and reports that €20.3 million has already been paid out.
